For your safety, and to prevent any overload of your power grid, your spa should always be connected to two power generators who have to be grounded separately and must include fuses of 16, 20, 25 amp. A spa may sometimes require a lot of power. Consider for example what happens when you simultaneously switch on all the jets, the waterfall, the ozonator, the air blower and heating.
The power requirements can vary from one model to another. In all cases, a separate generator has to be installed and the cable should run directly from the fuse box to the future location of the Spa (you should leave at least 5 meters of spare cable to insert this cable in one of the sides of the Spa). The cable may never protrude from under the Spa! Furthermore, both power generators have to be connected to one earth fault.
The power cable should run directly from the fuse box to the future location of the Spa and 5 meters of extra cable should be provided to insert into one of the sides/flanks of the Spa.
Installing a waterproof switch at least 1,5 meter from the hot tub is also recommended so that the power can be switched of on-site in case of an emergency or for service work.
Installing the electricity yourself
If you want to install the electrical equipment going from the fuse box to the garden, please make sure to use splash waterproof junction boxes, sockets and/or switches. These materials are equipped with lockable valves and a rubber seal.
Use YmVk or YmVk-as power cables for outside: the YmVk cable has to be used above the ground and the YmVK-as cable (the –as stands for armored cable) should be used underground, as it can be buried. If you want to route a cable through your façade, you will have to drill a hole of 16 millimeters. For additional safety, please slide a PVC tube through this hole.
On the outside façade, you may – if necessary – install an extra junction box, which is easy should you ever want to use the power for other purposes. For an above-the-ground power line, you can use an YmVk and/or YmVk-as cable, which you have to secure every 40 centimeters with cable cleats. For an underground power line, you will have to use an YmVk-as cable (armored cable). This cable has a braided metal outer jacket for protection. You have to bury the cable at a depth of about 60 centimeters. You can use a “normal” YmVk-cable for under the ground, but only if you lay out the cable safely, by using a shockproof PVC tube. When transitioning from the garden to the façade of your house, incorporate an extra loop in the cable, to make sure that there is enough leeway in the cable.
Be careful when working with electricity
If you want to connect the Spa yourself to your power grid, we will provide you with all necessary information and a wiring diagram. Be very careful when working with electricity, do not take unnecessary risks! If you do not have the necessary knowledge, let a qualified electrician or a specialist recognized by us do the work.
